Many people get confused when discussing exchange rates between the Ghana Cedi (GHS) and Foreign Currency (USD/GBP /EUR…..).
The rule is simple: the BASE currency comes first.
If the Ghana Cedi (GHS) is your base currency and you want to know how many US Dollars it can buy, write:
GHS/USD (GHS to USD)
Example:
• 1 GHS = ? USD
• 1 GHS = ? GBP
• 1 GHS = ? EUR

If the Foreign Currency (USD/GBP/EUR) is your base currency and you want to know how many Ghana Cedis it can buy, write:
USD/GHS (USD to GHS)
Example:
• 1 USD = ? GHS
• 1 GBP = ? GHS
• 1 EUR = ? GHS
Remember:
• GHS/USD = Ghana Cedi is the base currency.
• USD/GHS = US Dollar is the base currency.
In foreign exchange (Forex), the first currency in the pair is always the base currency, while the second currency is the quote currency.
Note: These rates were recalculated using data published by BOG on 10 06 2026
