1. Boiled Yam

  • Yam tubers

  • Water

  • Salt (optional)


2. Fried Yam (SO4 Crispy Crunch Style)

  • Yam tubers

  • Vegetable oil (groundnut oil, palm oil, or sunflower oil)

  • Salt (optional)


3. Roasted Yam

  • Yam tubers

  • (Optional) Salt, pepper, or palm oil sauce



4. Yam Porridge

  • Yam tubers

  • Palm oil

  • Fresh pepper blend (tomatoes, red bell pepper, scotch bonnet, onions)

  • Onions (sliced or blended)

  • Seasoning cubes/powder

  • Salt

  • Water

  • Vegetables

  • Protein (fish, meat, or crayfish – optional)



5. Pounded Yam

  • Yam tubers

  • Water

Preparation

1. Boiled Yam

Ingredients: Yam, water, salt (optional).

Steps:

  1. Peel the yam and cut into round slices or cubes.

  2. Rinse well and place in a pot.

  3. Add water to cover the yam, add a little salt if desired.

  4. Boil on medium heat until soft (about 15–20 minutes).

  5. Drain excess water and serve with sauce, stew, or palm oil.



2. Fried Yam

Ingredients: Yam, vegetable oil, salt.

Steps:

  1. Peel and slice yam into sticks, cubes, or wedges.

  2. Rinse and soak briefly in salted water (optional).

  3. Heat oil in a pan until hot.

  4. Fry yam pieces until golden brown and crispy.

  5. Drain on paper towel and serve with sauce or pepper mix.


3. Roasted Yam

Ingredients: Yam, charcoal/oven/grill.Steps:

  1. Wash yam well (you may keep the skin on or peel lightly).

  2. Cut into thick slices.

  3. Place on a hot grill, oven tray, or charcoal fire.

  4. Roast, turning occasionally, until golden brown and cooked inside.

  5. Serve hot with palm oil sauce or pepper sauce.


4. Pounded Yam

Ingredients: Yam.Steps:

  1. Peel and cut yam into chunks.

  2. Boil until very soft.

  3. Pound in a mortar with a pestle (or use a yam pounder/food processor) until stretchy and smooth.

  4. Mold into balls and serve with soup (egusi, vegetable, etc.).



5. Yam Porridge

Ingredients: Yam, palm oil, pepper blend, onions, seasoning, vegetables/fish/meat (optional).Steps:

  1. Peel and cut yam into chunks.

  2. Put yam, blended pepper mix, onions, palm oil, seasoning, and water in a pot.

  3. Cook until yam is soft and starts to thicken.

  4. Stir gently to break some yam pieces into the porridge for creaminess.

  5. Add vegetables, fish, or meat if desired, then simmer for a few more minutes.
